Senior living facilities continue to struggle with Legionnaires’ disease as evidenced by Brookdale Vernon Hills becoming the sixth facility in Illinois to report an outbreak in 2020.
Health officials confirmed on February 20th that one person has died and four others were sickened by the pneumonia-like respiratory illness. The Lake County retirement community is located in Vernon Hills, which is about 35 miles north of the Chicago Loop along Interstate Highway 94.
This outbreak is a reminder of the importance of caring for and properly maintaining hot tubs, showers, humidifiers and other equipment that can aerosolize water. Regular testing for the presence of Legionella can alert the facility owners to the problem so it can be resolved quickly and before residents become sick.
By purchasing your OnSite Legionella Test Kit, you can protect your facilities and homes from Legionnaires’ disease.
