Legionella bacteria has been found in multiple locations at an Illinois Senior Living facility. Proof that Legionella grows in all different types of water-use fixtures, several have tested positive for Legionella, including the pool, irrigation system, and decorative water fountain. All of these fixtures have the potential to aerosolize water creating the potential for inhalation.
Chicago’s Daily Herald reports that water samples were collected Feb. 5, 2020 at Brookdale Senior Living, before full preventive measures were implemented at the facility, according to the Lake County Health Department. Five confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease, including one death, have been identified at Brookdale but no new cases have been reported within the past week, health officials reported.
