Over $1.2M was spent on bottled water, portable showers and toilets, chlorination, hiring of outside experts and other provisions to resolve a Legionella outbreak at the Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Southeast Washington DC.
The hospital said last week that attempts to treat its water system with chlorine were not successful. That prompted scrutiny from lawmakers, including D.C. Council member David Grosso, who sent a letter to the behavioral health department demanding answers.
Health officials say the hospital is clear of the deadly bacteria after two weeks of treatment.
